BIOGRAPHY

Graduated as an engineer in 1990 from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia. The next year he was appointed coordinator for the regional council of trade union Podkrepa in the town of Vratsa and elected his chairman in January 1992.

PUBLIC SERVICE RECORD

Mladenov was elected Confederal Secretary in social policy of Podkrepa trade union in March 1997.

Totyu Mladenov has specialized in a number of countries with studies dealing with social issues, including the pension systems, unemployment insurance, labor market.

In his capacity of representative of Podkrepa trade union, Mladenov has taken part in the National Council for Three-party cooperation, as well as in the consultative council with the parliamentary social policy commission.

March 20002 - October 2007 - Mladenov served as executive director of the Chief Labor Inspectorate in March 2002, taking over from Krassimir Totkov.

October 2007 - became mayor of Vratsa after sweeping the local elections with 56% in a town, which has traditionally been one of the strongholds of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
