For the fifth day in a row, long lines of freight trucks had formed Friday afternoon on the Danube Bridge, connecting Bulgaria and Romania.

The bridge is closed for traffic since 1:30 pm due to technical problems with the computers on the Romanian side.

The news was reported by the Bulgarian Main Directorate Border Police.

Only cars, vans, and buses from EU Member States are able to cross the bridge. There is a line of about 300 freight trucks.

The week-long congestion is due to the introduction of a new procedure in Romania for processing documents of vehicles weighing over 10 tons, which has been in force since Monday. The new procedure extends processing time per vehicle by 10 minutes, meaning that an estimated 15 freight vehicles pass the Giurgiu point per hour.

No congestion has been reported at the other border crossing points between Bulgaria and Romania.

Ferry service at Vidin, Oryahovo, Svishtov is functioning.

Traffic is also normal at the border crossing points in Kardam, Silistra and Durankulak.

On Thursday, Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry has expressed concern with the traffic obstructions and has asked Romania for an official explanation.
