Health insurance contributions will be put up from 8 to 10% starting on April 1, Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev reported Wednesday.

Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov first announced the increase in health insurance payments on Monday after meeting with protesting doctors.
Borisov promised the doctors an additional BGN 350 M from the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund to make money available for delayed payments. The 2% raise was designed to cover this budget increase.
Borisov also pointed out that Bulgaria has the lowest employee health insurance payments in the EU – currently 8%.
