BILLA Bulgaria had a successful year in 2014, as its turnover increased by 4.8 % compared to the previous year, reaching BGN 614.8 M.

The financial results of the company for 2014 were significantly better than the initial expectations, the press office of BILLA Bulgaria informs.

In order to continue its successful path of development, the company plans to invest nearly BGN 200 M in Bulgaria in the forthcoming years.

BILLA is the first international chain of supermarkets in Bulgaria and is leader in the sector, creating added value not only for its customers, but also for the Bulgarian economy.

Over one million Bulgarians are regular customers of BILLA and are in possession of their personal loyalty cards.

According to BILLA Bulgaria, 94 % of its turnover is generated by goods from Bulgarian suppliers, while 92 % of the items in its shops are supplied by Bulgarian companies.

The company has initiated series of projects and initiatives, which are directed towards supporting the Bulgarian economy and local production.

BILLA invests in the training of Bulgarian farmers and is successfully developing its “BILLA Gardens” project.

The manager of BILLA Bulgaria Boyko Sachanski stated that experts help in the cultivation of high quality vegetables and fruits in over 100 Bulgarian gardens.

Only in the past two years, employees of more than 50 Bulgarian firms have undergone trainings, initiated by BILLA.

The company is known as being a loyal and honest partner to its over 800 suppliers and partners.

As part of the REWE International AG Group, Bulgaria has been chosen as a pilot country for the implementation of the large international Unique Selling Proposition (USP) project.

Through it BILLA will consolidate its leading position of a supermarket guaranteeing high quality products to its customers at reasonable prices.

The focus of this project will be on the fresh vegetables and fruits with Bulgarian origin, the local production of bread from certified bakers and fresh meat.

The development of own brands, such as BILLA and Clever, continues to be among the priorities of the company.

Since its entry on the Bulgarian market, BILLA has invested more than BGN 500 M, securing employment and competitive remuneration to nearly 4000 workers.

The plans of BILLA Bulgaria foresee the investment of nearly BGN 200 M and the opening of 40 new stores.

In 2014 BILLA opened four new stores in Bulgaria, while it plans to open another eight and reconstruct five of its existing ones in 2015.

The plan for the extension of the chain is directed mainly at Bulgaria's four largest cities – Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas, without excluding other regions.

For more than15 years, REWE International, as represented by BILLA, has been one of the largest and most stable international investors in the country, aiming to contribute to the development of sustainable business in Bulgaria.

This statement comes in opposition to the recent news that the chain might be retreating from Bulgaria, which has not been confirmed officially yet.
