Schools on almost the entire territory of Bulgaria have opened for classes Monday, after being closed for the better part of last week due to extreme winter weather.

Schools in parts of the north-eastern Silistra region nevertheless remain closed through Wednesday, as the weather there has remained cold, and roads partially blocked by snow.

Classes in Bulgaria were suspended Wednesday-Friday last week, after heavy snowfall in the beginning of the week caused major road blocks across the country.

Strong snowfall has started again in various parts of the country Monday morning, with fresh problems expected over the week.
