Bulgaria rightist Blue Coalition MP, Atanas Atanasov, has called for the legal authorities to turn their focus away from former secret agent Aleksei Petrov and on to the group operating around ex Chief Prosecutor Nikola Flichev.

Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) MP Atanasov stated Monday that “it is time to unravel the entire group operating around former Chief Prosecutor Filchev”. He added that the focus should be taken off Aleksei Petrov aka The Tractor, who was arrested in the recent ‘Octopus’ special police operation, and put on to the “tractor drivers”, who need to be “harvested”.

Atanasov, the ex Director of the former National Security Service (NSS), continued that Filchev himself had attracted Petrov to join the secret services department of the NSS in 2000 and that it was important to find out how Petrov then became the informal Director of the State National Security Agency DANS.

Nanka Koleva, widow of Prosecutor Nikolay Kolev, who was shot dead in Sofia in 2003 recently cliamed that Filchev, Petrov, and Filko Slavov, former head of the Bulgarian special police forces, came together to eliminate her husband.

Atanasov concluded by adding that some political parties, such as the Bulgarian Socialist Party, entered into collaboration with organized crime in an attempt to stay in power.

According to Atanasov there are two classic examples of this political party – organized crime link: Firstly when BSP leader and ex PM Sergey Stanishev joined forces with Aleksei Petrov to fight against his enemy ex BSP Interior Minister Rumen Petkov. Secondly he alleged that the Multigroup mafia organization had gone to Madrid in 2001 to hand over a bag of money to former Tsar and Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg so he would agree to lead a ethnic-Turkish DPS party run government.
