Two teams of the fire brigade and the Civil Defense Service spent more than an hour Friday trying to save a four-month old kitten in the city of Shumen in northeast Bulgaria.
The kitten named Moni had climbed about 15 meters high on a tree on the Oborishte Square after it was chased by an older cat.
He spent three days there without being able to climb down despite the desperate attempts of his 70-year old owner Baba (Grandmother) Todorka to attract him to the ground.
The rescue operations, which attracted dozens of people, cost about BGN 150 in total, according to estimates. Many of the curious spectators commented the kitten must be renamed "Emel", after Bulgaria's Minister of Emergency Situations Emel Etem.
The fire fighters did not manage to reach the kitten but finally saved him by shaking the tree, which caused the cat to fall in their safety net.
