A total of five sailors died after a Bulgarian cargo ship with 11 on board sank Thursday morning near the Kerch Strait.

There are no immediate reports of the fate of the other six marine officials, an Ukrainian national among them, the head of Bulgaria's Maritime Administration Nikolay Apostolov said.

Unconfirmed reports claim one of the sailors on board has been rescued.

The vessel, called Vanessa, is owned by Board Marine Burgas Company.

The signal over the wreck was given shortly after 2 a.m. An Ukrainian tugboat and a helicopter are still searching for survivors.
