MySpace in Preliminary Deal to Buy Photobucket

Business | May 8, 2007, Tuesday // 00:00

Social networking website MySpace has agreed a preliminary deal, worth USD 250 M, to buy image hosting website Photobucket, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

Photobucket is one of the biggest image storage websites on the Web, offering the option to customise the images, usually photographs, which can then be linked to other websites, while still hosted on Photobucket.

The acquisition makes sense for MySpace, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, as a big share of the photographs that appear on MySpace are hosted by Photobucket.

The deal is far from final, however, and could still fall apart, the Wall Street Journal said, quoting an unnamed source close to the talks.
