Hundreds of curious Sofia residents packed the Sofia City Center to its capacity Friday, as the new shopping complex opened its first working day.

People of all ages crammed into all several storeys of the place.

Fashion boutiques, glassware, mobile phones and food products all attracted their interest, while teenagers seemed especially keen on laying their hands on the free balloons that were everywhere.

The complex, which stands right next to the National Palace of Culture, also host the first Piccadilly megastore in Sofia.

The Bulgarian chain's second spot in the capital will open doors within a month and will be located at the Mall of Sofia, a complex that will be the largest business, shopping and entertainment center in Bulgaria.

Piccadilly was originally founded in seaside center Varna, where the stores quickly gained popularity before an expansion of the chain to other cities as well.

Owners have also eyed Burgas and Veliko Tarnovo.
