Bulgaria's Culture and Tourism Minister Nina Chilova officially opened Bulgaria's 2005 Summer tourism season at the posh seaside resort Albena on Saturday.

Minister Chilova explained that the number of foreign tourists coming to Bulgaria is expected to go up by 10 to 12% during the new season. "Bulgaria will regain its positions on the markets of Eastern Europe," the tourism minister underlined.

The number of the tourists coming from the Czech Republic is predicted to go up by 30%, of Polish, Hungarian and Slovenian tourists will increase by 20% and of Russian tourists by 17%.

The tourism minister also pointed out that the main challenge for Bulgaria's hospitality industry remains the improvement of the staff qualification. Construction works at the seaside resorts, which continue during the summer as well, are seen as another major problem.

There are foreign tourists that are already canceling their holidays in Bulgaria because of the construction works.

Biser Yalamov, chairman of the Tourism Agency underlined that by the end of 2005 Bulgaria will be presented at more than 50 different tourism expos.

The official opening gathered part of the Bulgarian political elite in the beautiful resort.

The seaside resort welcomed its guests with many surprises - new club and sports animations, new open scene and a new crafts street.

A special march with the flags of all Bulgarian Black Sea municipalities gave the start of the official ceremony. Children from the Arts Schools with the Ministry of culture and tourism staged a major performance for all guests.

More than 2,000 Bulgarian graduates picked the posh Black Sea resort to celebrate their prime. Over 25,000 people have been to the resort since the beginning of 2005 and currently there are some 5,000 tourists enjoying the comfort of the resort. The number of the Irish tourist coming to Albena is expected to go considerably up.

The Albena resort stakes on the modern hotel infrastructure and on the high-quality services it offers.
