"These elections are different from any others that I've seen in my lifetime," the US Ambassador to Bulgaria James Pardew told Novinite.com late on Tuesday evening.

"Campaigning is very, very hard, and the level of debate has been very intense," the Ambassador told Editor Petya Bondokova. Mr. Pardew was hosting an Election Night party at the Sheraton Hotel in Sofia, after he cast his ballot about two weeks ago in the US.

Asked to comment on the OSCE monitoring over the elections, the Ambassador said that was nothing unusual.

"We are in the OSCE, and we have encouraged monitoring in other places around the world, so why not?" Mr. Pardew said.

In his address to guests of the party, he stressed on the fact the election was a very close one. According to Ambassador Pardew, absolutely no one knew what final results would show.

He also said that early reports indicated a very heavy turnout.
