A large-scale wildfire broke out on Sunday in the Vitosha Mountain, right outside of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, the Interior Ministry announced.

The fire started in the eastern parts of Vitosha, close to Bistritsa, a Sofia suburb, the local police said Sunday afternoon.

According to the Sofia Municipality press center, the local fire-fighters are still unable to tackle the mountain fire because it is a largely inaccessible area.

Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Chief Commissar Nikolay Nikolov, who is the head of Bulgaria's Fire Fighting Directorate, conducted talks on how to start putting out the fire from the air.

Local volunteers from the suburb of Bistritsa have been mobilized to help the authorities extinguish the forest fire in Vitosha.
