Expansion Underway: Sofia Airport Terminal 2 to Add 1000 New Parking Spaces
Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Anna Natova, announced the commencement of construction for an outdoor parking lot at Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport
The cost of the construction of the underground railway section connecting the Mladost 1 residential district and Business Park Sofia has been estimated at around EUR 72 M, according to Stoyan Bratoev, CEO of Metropoliten EAD.
The money will go to the construction of a 2.8-kilometer underground railway section with three stations, with the project due to be completed in end-2015.
The tender process for the selection of a contractor is to start in the summer, the contractor is to be selected by end-2012 and the construction works are to start in 2013, according to Bratoev.
The construction of the underground railway section to Sofia Business Park became possible after the Monitoring Committee of the Transport Operational Program approved the allocation of the EUR 55 M saved through tenders for the extension of the underground railway network for this stretch.
The remaining sum of around EUR 27 is to be provided from the municipal or the state budget.
To speed up work on the project, the application form is being revised to include two separate sections - the extensions of the underground network to Sofia Airport and to Business Park Sofia.
The application form is to be submitted with the Monitoring Committee by mid-August at the latest.
