Wednesday's dismissal of Bulgaria's ex-Transport Minister, Alexander Tsvetkov, was due to his inability to communicate properly with the European Commission, according to his successor, Ivaylo Moskovski.

"It is difficult for me to give an answer, but I believe Alexander Tsvetkov remained to a certain extend unrecognizable for the European Commission," Moskovski, who until Wednesday was Tsvetkov's Deputy, told the bTV private channel.

Moskovski further claimed there is no tension between him and the former Minister and stated the substitution is intended to pour "fresh blood" into the Ministry.

Bulgaria is the only country with five European Transport Corridors running through it, which is a stron argument for the country to receive greater EU funding, the new Minister also pointed out, adding the lack of administrative capacity on behalf of the beneficiaries is the main obstacle towards achieving this goal.

Tsvetkov somewhat surprisingly resigned his position, the only explanation on part of the Transport Ministry and himself being that her had personal motives for this move.

Various statements and media reports, however, suggest that the reasons for his dismissal have to do with the bad performance over the absorption of EU funds from Operational Program "Transport", the delayed reforms in state transport companies, and the technically bankrupt Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) Holding.

Tsvetkov's resignation was a part of the cabinet reshuffle in Bulgaria Wednesday, which also included the resignation of Deputy Economy Minister in charge of energy Mariy Kosev, as well as the finalization of the dismissal of National Social Security Institute head Hristina Mitreva.
