The Member of the Parliament from the ruling GERB party, Krasimira Simeonova, has issued an official apology to residents of the town of Peshtera over her organizing a school contest blamed to be a propaganda event.

In a special statement to the media, Simeonova declares she is assuming full responsibility for the contest where students had to compete in arranging a puzzle, which at the end read "We Are GERB, We Are Stronger," saying the event had not been coordinated with the leadership of Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party and the Education Ministry.

The scandal flared after outraged parents alarmed the Regional Inspectorate of the Education Ministry, complaining of political propaganda and campaigning, which they say violates the law.

The Executive Committee of GERB is going to conduct its own investigation in the case and make a decision during their next, regularly-scheduled meeting, the GERB press center informs.
