Two of the Bulgarian medics, formerly jailed in Libya, say they are offended by Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov's statements about the price paid by the country for their freedom.

One of the nurses, Valya Chervenyashka, spoke Friday for the Bulgarian National Television, BNT, saying she is upset that instead of being elated by the news the Bulgarian medics have been finally confirmed innocent by a Libyan official, Borisov talked about how much money was paid for them.

Chervenyashka spoke in the aftermath of the Wednesday statement for Al Jazeera, made by Libya's former Justice Minister, Mustafa Abudel-Jalil, saying not the Bulgarian medics, but the regime of leader Muammar Gaddafi was responsible for infecting more than 400 children with HIV.

The medics commented they were satisfied from the moral exoneration and hoped the manipulated Libyan people will finally learn the truth.

On Thursday, Borisov stated in connection with the news Gaddafi had racketeered Bulgaria and literally stole USD 130 M – the price of the medics' freedom. He failed to voice satisfaction from their vindication.

Chervenyashka further says their release from Libyan jail after 8 years behind bars and a death sentence can be attributed to Europe, not to Bulgaria.

Dr. Zdravko Georgiev, who was also jailed with the nurses, added Borisov's statement was "ugly" for insinuating Bulgarian people are poor because their taxpayers' money went for the medics' freedom.

Meanwhile, the TV channel Sky News aired a report citing the Bulgarian medics saying they hoped Muammar Gaddafi will be finally ousted.

They were, however, divided on their optimism about the Libyan leader's future with Snezhina Dimitrova saying it is over form him, but Chervenyashka and Valentina Siropolou believing he would be able to take a hold on the situation due to his unpredictability.

Kristiana Valcheva pointed out the spirit of the opposition always existed in Benghazi.

The six Bulgarian medics and a Palestinian doctor were arrested in 1999 and were accused of deliberately infecting more than 400 children with HIV in a Libyan hospital in Benghazi.

They were sentenced to death twice. In July 2007, the involvement of the French Sarkozy Presidential couple in the final stages of the talks, which has been deemed crucial by Bulgaria and the medics, led to their release after spending eight years in a Libyan prison.
