Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov unveiled on Sunday a newly constructed section from Sofia’s ring road, stretching from Simeonovsko Shosse to Bulgaria boulevards.
The event was attended also by Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Rosen Plevneliev, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Sofia district governor Danail Kirilov.
The four-kilometer-long section has two roadways with three lanes each. The project includes also the construction of two road junctions and was implemented with funds from the national budget.
The newly built road stretch is expected to ease the traffic on one of the busiest roads in the capital and reach the residential district of Mladost 4 in two years.
“If there was no political will and we had failed to wipe out the mobsters, the new section of Sofia’s ring road would not have been built,” Borisov said at the inauguration ceremony.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said there is political will and many more road sections will be opened by 2020, including Kachitsa road junction in the northern city of Veliko Tarnovo, a road junction in the coastal city of Burgas, the road to the northern town of Devin, Trakia motorway.
The prime minister added that European funds are used to finance the construction works on the northern part of Sofia’s ring road. The goal of the project is to connect the Bulgarian capital and the Serbian city of Nis.
