Bulgaria’s Meglena Plugchieva is a prime candidate to become Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The news was announced by Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov Wednesday.

“We stand firm behind any dignified Bulgarian nomination for a high-level position. We do not behave like other political parties, because we are first and foremost Bulgarians,” Borisov said during the announcement.

A Bulgarian national is yet to hold such high-ranking position at EBRD. The hearing is Wednesday while the decision of the Board of Directors is expected some time soon, EBRD reports.

Plugchieva was a Deputy PM for the European Funds in the previous cabinet led by Socialist PM, Sergey Stanishev. She is a member of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and is currently a Member of the Parliament from BSP.
