Sofia Airport has registered a 5% drop in the number of passengers that it serviced in June 2009 compared to June 2008.

A total of 240 940 traveled internationally through Sofia Airport in June, according to data provided by the airport press service. 30% of these traveled by Bulgarian airlines.

A total of 268 440 passengers went through the airport in June 2009 compared to 282 535 passengers a year ago.

At the same time, in June 2009, the airport registered a 30% increase in the number of passengers on Bulgaria's internal lines compared to the same month of 2008.

The global financial crisis has affected substantially the volume of international freights serviced at Sofia Airport which dropped by 30% in June 2009 year-on-year.

The busiest day in June was June 28 when a total of 10 208 passengers were serviced.

Despite the effects of the global crisis, in the first half of 2009 the number of passengers serviced at Sofia Airport dropped only slightly - 1 532 000 compared to 1 537 000 serviced in the first half of 2008.
