During an official visit to Ashgabat Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov said that Turkmenistan has backed a proposal to provide 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually to Bulgaria.

The gas will be delivered through the existing pipeline network through Russia.

"I am happy that Turkmenistan is ready to provide natural gas to Bulgaria before the construction of the Nabucco pipeline," Parvanov said after a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart, President Gurbanguli Berdymukhamedov.

Turkmenistan possesses the world's fifth largest reserves of natural gas and substantial deposits of oil.
