The fourth vote on a non-confidence move against the Bulgarian government is to take place on Friday afternoon.
The vote, filed over rampant corruption in the country, was backed by all the opposition parties, all independent MPs, plus the Bulgarian New Democracy parliamentary group composed of 17 deputies who split off from the NMSP centrist party of the former PM and monarch Simeon Saxe-Coburg.
The socialist-led cabinet of Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev is accused of corruption schemes and practices in several sectors of infrastructure, healthcare, and interior.
"The government must resign because its corruptness inflicts heavy damages on Bulgarian citizens and discredits Bulgaria's authority within the EU", the motives for the no confidence vote state.
Thousands of Bulgarians gathered for a nationwide protest, staged in the capital city of Sofia on Thursday, the day when the no-confidence vote was debated. The citizens have been called on by the leaders of the opposition parties.
Despite the unity of the opposition, the fourth no-confidence vote against the government will likely fail as the governing coalition has 151 deputies out of the 240-member parliament.
