A special work group will check the election of a new leadership of the Simeon Saxe-Coburg party, it became clear on Wednesday.
The party's decision was prompted by the accusations against the former finance minister and deputy leader Milen Velchev of rigging the results of the vote at the controversial congress at the weekend. It was also prompted by the launched sign-up to demand the expulsion of Velchev by party members.
The members of the political council of the Saxe-Coburg party National Movement for Stability and Progress gathered on Wednesday in the party central to discuss the issue amidst reports of a possible split in the party.
The party leader and Bulgaria's ex-king Simeon Saxe-Coburg met every member personally, according to unofficial information and there was no real sitting of the council, the chairwoman of the parliamentary group Anelia Mingova said.
Mingova also confirmed the information that there was a sing-up launched for the expulsion of Velchev.
Former Foreign Minister Solomon Passy, former Finance Minister Milen Velchev, former Defence Minister Nikolay Svinarov, former MEP Antonia Parvanova and economist and Sofia municipal councillor Vladimir Karolev were elected members of the political council at the tumultuous congress.
