Bulgaria's former regional development minister is very likely to head the state tourism agency, local reports say.
The nomination of centrist Valentin Tserovski, who drew a lot of criticism during his mandate, faces fierce opposition by the ethnic Turkish party, 168 Hours Weekly reported in its latest issue.
The ethnic Movement for Rights and Freedoms, a member of the ruling coalition government, is believed to eye the office of the tourism agency, which carries tremendous potential now that the country is member of the European Union.
Tserovski is known to be favoured by the leader of his party, former king and prime minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg, and it is highly probable that the scores will be settled in his favour.
Minister Tserovksi was not available for comment.
Albeit the most dynamic sector in the country, Bulgaria's tourism is plagued by squabbles and is in dire need of unification.
The previous head of the state Tourism Authority Mario al-Jebouri filed his resignation in the middle of December last year, citing personal reasons. Reports say, however, that it was namely for his failure to cope with the fighting key players on the market that he decided to quit.
