Bulgarian observer Dimitar Stoyanov sent an open letter to the EP president, saying he would apologize publicly only if Josep Barrell takes side on the people trafficking issue in Bulgaria.
Borrell has requested Stoyanov to publicly apologize for the slighting comments about Hungarian MEP of Romany origin.
In his open letter to Borrel, Stoyanov said he wanted to throw some light on the so-called "Romany traditions", which were the main reason for the debate.
"In the 21st century young Romany girls are being sold for brides by their own parents. I attach materials from the Bulgarian press that prove this fact. This is an infamous issue and I think all European institutions should immediately stigmatise it. Mr. Borrel, if you do not approve of this fact, then you agree with the statement in my notorious e-mail. Please be so kind to solve this contradiction", Stoyanov wrote.
The member of the nationalists party Ataka, caused quite a ruckus last week, e-mailing humiliating comments at Hungarian Livia Jaroka , reacting to a proposal to nominate the centre-right MEP for a prize honouring her human rights activities.
