Bulgarian Doctors Have 5 Bird-Flu Detection Tests

Bulgaria has five different tests that can detect the avian flu virus in humans, Angel Kunchev, head of the Health Ministry's department of contagious diseases, has said.

There are also 160,000 Remantadine doses available, as well as 2,000 Tamiflu doses, he added. Bulgarians don't have to stock the drugs in panic, because authorities have enough to meet a possible viral outspread.

Should such an outspread occur, the infected people would be treated in the infectious diseases hospital in Sofia and Varna. Chanses are, however that the virus may not reach humans, even if there is an outbreak among domestic fowls, national epidemiology consultant Mira Kozhuharova has said.
