US President George W. Bush is determined to go ahead with an "aggressive" foreign policy during his second term in office, Secretary of State Colin Powell said in an interview published on Tuesday.
"The president is not going to trim his sails or pull back," Powell told the Financial Times in his first newspaper interview after Bush re-election.
"It's a continuation of his principles, his policies, his beliefs," Powell said.
In the words of Powell US foreign policy had traditionally been "aggressive in terms of going after challenges, issue".
"Washington would not hesitate to act alone when needed," Powell added, stressing the United States would attempt to get beyond disagreements with countries who objected to last year's war to bring down Saddam Hussein.
President George W. Bush was re-elected last week, beating Democratic candidate John Kerry.
