Bulgaria's third Iraq unit completed its relocation to Diwaniya within the set time schedule and amid tight security measures.

Bulgaria's Defence Ministry expressed its gratitude to the coalition forces and to the US, Polish and Hungarian contingents for the help offered during the relocation.

At a special farewell evening in Karbala Bulgaria's troops and commandment bid farewell to the local authorities that highly evaluated the work of the Bulgarian units.

Bulgarians have patrolled the streets of Karbala since August 2003. Since then, there have been seven Bulgarian fatalities in the Shiite city.

Bulgaria's troops are currently located in the Echo base in Diwaniya, where they are executing their tasks, the Defence Ministry pointed out.

Bulgaria agreed in September to relocate its troops. Currently there are some 500 Bulgarian peacekeepers in Iraq, as part of a Polish-led multinational contingent.
