Qatar-based al-Jazeera TV aired Saturday a video footage of what it says were a Briton and two Americans kidnapped two days ago in Iraq.

Al-Jazeera's announcer said Tawhid and Jihad, the militant group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, said the men would be killed in 48 hours unless the United States and Britain release all female Iraqi inmates from Abu Ghraib and Umm Qasr prisons.

Umm Qasr prison is in southern Iraq, where British troops are stationed.

Officially there are two women imprisoned in Iraq. US forces claimed they were arrested for links with the regime of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

The announcer said the militants threatened to execute the men if the demand was not met.

Al-Jazeera showed only a brief clip, without any audio. The report, monitored in Cairo, did not say if there were any other demands.

A masked, armed militant stood behind the three men, who were blindfolded, and appeared to be seated and unharmed.

A team of kidnappers abducted Americans Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong and Briton Kenneth Bigley at dawn Thursday from their home. The three were doing construction work in Iraq.
