According to Turkish Health Ministry the death toll of derailing train in north-western Turkey has reached 139 passengers.

Another 74 seriously injured passengers had been rushed to hospitals in the small town of Pamukova, northwestern Turkey.

A total of 243 passengers had been on board of the high-speed train en route from Istanbul to Ankara, when reportedly four carriages overturned and caused the train to derail.

It was the maiden voyage of the fast train, which started June 4 as part of a newly launched project, but it had suffered warnings and criticism as unsuitable for the local infrastructure.

The accident occurred with the train travelling between capital Ankara to Istanbul when several carriages overturned near the towns of Sakarya and Pamukova, northwestern Turkey.
