Pentagon: U.S. Operation Not Much Anticipated "Battle for Baghdad"

The U.S. military operation underway in Baghdad is not necessarily the much anticipated "battle for Baghdad," a Pentagon official said on Monday.

He described it rather as a "show of force" that sends a powerful message to the Iraqi regime but not necessarily the much anticipated "battle for Baghdad," a Pentagon official said on Monday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the ground commander of U.S. troops that took control of President Saddam Hussein's main presidential palace had various options and it could not be known how the operation might unfold.
