Inside Bulgaria's Easter Celebrations: Traditions Passed Through Generations
Today marks the joyous celebration of Easter, one of the most significant holidays in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
Bulgaria was the country that recorded that second highest number of notifications on non-food dangerous products in 2010 – 192, according to the latest annual report on the bloc's alert system for non-food dangerous products, RAPEX.
Germany topped the list with 204 notifications. The Balkan country is followed by Hungary with 191 and Cyprus with 178.
In 2009, 122 notifications were registered in Bulgaria.
A total of 58% of the notifications last year related to Chinese-made goods compared to just 17% for products manufactured in the EU, reflecting the fact that 80% of the toys in Europe are made in China. As a result, this year's report was fully translated into Mandarin, EUobserver says.
A further 15% came from other non-EU countries and 10% were of unknown origin. Only 1% of the notifications concerned Bulgarian products.
While presenting the European Commission annual report on Thursday, Health and Consumer Policy Commissioner John Dalli pointed out that fewer dangerous goods are hitting the bloc's market. However, consumer demanded more effort was needed to improve market surveillance.
