PM Boyko Borisov has stated he is ready to dismiss minister for Bulgarians abroad Bozhidar Dimitrov because of the latter's past in Bulgaria's Communist State Security.

The Bulgarian PM said that in the wake of a string of revelations about the State Security pasts of a number of Bulgarian key diplomats across the globe. Such disclosures are made on a regular basis by a special ad-hoc commission examining the State Security files for presence of people occupying senior state positions.

Wednesday both PM Borisov and foreign minister Nikolay Mladenov expressed anger at the findings and vowed to fire all diplomats with communist State Security pasts. They also promised to make legislative amendments to disallow the occupation of similar position by former State Security agents.

Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov and representatives of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party have in turn reacted in anger at the cabinet's stance, arguing those persons were working for their country's intelligence units and that it is no surprising fact that a country's diplomacy and intelligence are interlinked.

Thursday PM Borisov said that his minister Dimitrov's involvement with State Security is negligible, but added he is ready to dismiss him to settle the matter once and for all.
