Bulgaria has achieved much in fighting corruption and organized crime over the past year, according to Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann.

Faymann welcomed Tuesday in Vienna the Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and a Bulgarian government delegation.

Borisov was on a two-day Austrian trip at the invitation of the Austrian chancellor, who declared that he was extremely happy with the fruitful talks his Cabinet had with the Bulgarian state delegation.

“We have considered and discussed issues of crucial importance and the future of joint projects. I am glad to announce that I accept PM Borisov’s invitation to visit Sofia, and hope to do that in 2010,” said Werner.

Borisov has thanked Austria for its support for Bulgaria’s EU integration.

“I am glad that Austria has been backing our efforts to join the Schengen Agreement. With our low taxes, Bulgaria is an attractive place to invest, and I think that it is important that I should mention right here that Austria is the biggest foreign investor in our country. I will use this chance to thank Dr. Faymann for Austria’s support for extending the deadline for using ISPA funds for the construction of the second Danube Bridge between Bulgaria and Romania,” declared the Bulgarian PM in turn.

Borisov and Faymann have agreed that the EU funds for regional development should not be reduced in the 2013-2020 financial framework of the EU.

Earlier on Tuesday, Borisov met with Faymann’s deputy, Josef Proell, with whom Bulgaria’s Economy Minister Traicho Traikov signed a double taxation agreement.

The PM also visited the opening of the renovated building of the Bulgarian Embassy in Vienna.
