Bulgarian prime minister is mentioned in one in every three media releases, followed by the finance minister and the president, who also shine in the media spotlight, a survey shows.

A media analysis of seven national daily newspapers, launched by the Laboratory for Media Monitoring of the Media Democracy Foundation, has shown that Prime Minister Borisov ranks first in terms of media attention, while Finance Minister Simeon Djankov and President Georgi Parvanov lag behind.

The leader of the center-right ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party is the most opinionated politician and the one who receives the most balanced reviews from the country's dailies that have been analyzed.

However, according to the results of the analysis, media comments relating to the government's work have become harsher – an indication that Borisov's charisma is starting to wear off.

Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetan is not a 'regular' in the newspaper feeds and his work is subject to less media coverage.

“Bulgaria's Finance Minister Djankov has a certain 'communication problem' and is gradually turning into one of the government's officials with the most negative reviews”, stated Ass. Prof. Orlin Spasov of the Media Democracy Foundation.

Former Bulgarian PM and leader of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Sergey Stanishev is also often mentioned in the seven national newspapers included in the analysis.

President Parvanov, who until recently has kept a low profile, is now subject to the most newspaper criticism. This may be due to the President's recent dispute with Finance Minister Simeon Djankov over the hint that Djankov made in a popular night TV show that the President is an “elderly billionaire.”

The parliamentary speaker Tsetska Tsacheva does not boast great media popularity, though the institution she represents ranks high in terms of media coverage.

Understandably GERB is the party that gets the most attention from the newspaper media, followed by the ethnic Turkish DPS party and BSP.

The rightist Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Party (DSB) and Bulgaria's conservative party “Law, Order and Justice” (RZS) are rarely mentioned in media reports whereas their respective leaders Ivan Kostov and Yane Yanev often find themselves in the media focus.
