The Regional Electoral Commission in Kyustendil has confirmed that alleged mafia boss Plamen Galev has been registered to run in the upcoming general elections.

Galev has been confirmed as an independent candidate after the Kyustendil Commission accepted 13 266 of the 14 100 signatures collected to support his candidature.

Meanwhile the Sofia City prosecutor has officially moved the case against Galev and his partner Angel Hristov to the Sofia City Court by accusing them of running an organized criminal group.

However, now that Galev is an official MP candidate he receives immunity from prosecution and thus the Court will not be able to set a date for the trial.

Galev and his close associate, Angel Hristov, have been investigated over a long period of time for various crimes in the southwest town of Dupnitsa, most notably racketeering and organized crime. The two are known as the "Galevi Brothers".
