Bulgaria ranks as the third country in Europe for the number of people trafficked abroad for prostitution and other criminal activities according to the latest report.

Bulgarian women are often exported as prostitutes to West European countries, the Bulgarian National Radio(BNR) reported early Monday.

The women most frequently end up as prostitutes in Belgium, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands or France. Worldwide 80% of the victims of human trafficking are women.

Another 10% of the victims that are exported are children, Prosecutor Evgeni Dikov told BNR. Most of them are transported to Western Europe and are trained to beg or pick pockets.

According to BNR sources there are also sophisticated large pedophile networks operating in Bulgaria. ‘People from these networks are practically obsessed and have long term deformations of their character', Rosen Yordanov told the radio station.
