The budget of the Sofia Municipality for 2013 amounts to BGN 1 143 525 000, according to Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
Speaking to journalists in the southwestern city of Sandanski, as cited by investor.bg, Fandakova said that the budget of the Sofia Municipality for 2013 would ensure sustainable development and financial stability.
She noted that the main spending priorities in 2013 would be education, infrastructure, and environmental protection.
Fandakova emphasized that no increases in local taxes and waste disposal fees had been scheduled for 2013.
Doncho Barbolov, Deputy Sofia Mayor in charge of Finance, explained that an extra BGN 1 M would be allocated to infrastructure under budget 2013.
He made clear that the money would go to sidewalk repairs, street lighting, and asphalt resurfacing of streets and boulevards.
Barbolov added that an extra sum of over BGN 1 M had been earmarked for education.
He said that 16 new kindergartens with a total capacity of 1800 children were to be opened.
Fandakova specified that the budget of the Sofia Municipality for 2013 provided for an extra BGN 434 M for cleaning, transport, healthcare, and culture.
She added that a total of over BGN 280 M would be provided for the extension of the Sofia subway network under three operational programs.
Fandakova reminded that the first presentation of draft budget 2013 of the Sofia Municipality had taken place in October and the document had been discussed with representatives of all political parties and the business sector.
