The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, endorsed the proposal of the UN to regulate Iran's uranium enrichment program, BBC reports

Netanyahu, who met Friday with the US Middle East Envoy, George Mitchell, defined the plan, which envisages for low-enriched fuel to be further processed outside Iran as "positive first step" in stopping Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. The Israeli PM also gave accolades to the US President Barack Obama for his efforts to draw large-scale attention to the Iran nuclear program.

The plan proposes exporting most of Iran's enriched uranium to Russia and France for conversion into fuel rods before being returned.

The UN confirms receiving Iran's response, but did not reveal any details.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the UN proposal as a move from "confrontation to co-operation" by Western powers, but warns Iran would never give up its right to develop a peaceful nuclear program.

Meanwhile, during their meeting in Brussels, European leaders are reported to be drafting a declaration to voice their "grave concern" over Iranian nuclear enrichment.

The issue stems from Iran's claims it is enriching uranium for fuel and medical research, but the Western countries accuse Tehran of developing nuclear weapons.
