A suspected suicide bomber, apparently targeting a military convoy, killed at least four people and wounded 15 others in Kabul Thursday morning, Afghanistan witnesses and police reported.

The reports say the explosion happened near the heavily guarded entrance to the U.S. Embassy, as the embassy was hosting a Thanksgiving Day event, and Americans and others foreigners were entering the compound at the time of the blast.

The four people killed were civilians, said Alishah Paktiawal, head of criminal investigation section of Kabul police.

Security in Afghanistan has become a key concern as the country faces an increasingly strong Taleban insurgency.
