The US Attorney General Michael Mukasey passed out during while he was giving a speech Thursday night, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Mukasey was speaking on the war on terrorism before the Federalist Society's annual dinner at a hotel in Washington, D.C., when around 10:20 p.m. Eastern Time he lost consciousness and collapsed.

The Attorney General was taken to the George Washington University Hospital, where he is conscious and conversant. In his speech Thursday night, he sought to refute the criticism against the US Justice Department for assuming a special approach after September 11, under which suspected terrorist have not been tried in federal courtrooms.

The 67-year-old Mukasey is a retired federal judge from New York City. He became Attorney General a year ago after succeeding the Alberto Gonzales, who resigned after scandalous revelations that he had made politically-motivated appointments and dismissals of officials.
