A group of joshers distributed over one million fake copies of the New York Times with a headline announcing the end of the Iraqi war, the Bulgarian Information Agency BGNES reported on Thursday.

The copies with the date July 4, 2009 (the U.S. National Holiday) have been distributed mostly in New York and Los Angeles and have been created by a group called "Yes Men."

The group is already famous for their ingenious jokes and came into the spotlight when they presented themselves as the leaders of the World Trade Organization, declaring that the organization was dissolved.

In an article published on the Internet site www.nytimes-se.com, the authors of the false edition of New York Times say that they have prepared the newspaper in the course of six months, have printed it at six different locations and have distributed it with the help of thousands of volunteers.

"We want to make sure Barack Obama and the other Democrats are going to do what they have been elected for," the authors state.
