Serbian ultranationalists are gathering Tuesday to protest the arrest of Hague indictee Radovan Karadzic.

The rally is set to start at 19:00 CET, organized by the opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS).

"The members of the Belgrade police, together with those from Zandarmerija [Gendarmerie], will, along with activities to protect private and state owned property, especially emphasize safety of those taking part in the gathering and those representing the media," Belgrade police chief Slobodan Vukolic said as cited by the B92 news agency.

The police also said that that it will follow its regular procedure for the so-called high risk gatherings, that includes video-taping and photographing of the participants.

Karadzic was arrested at a police raid in Belgrade a week ago, 13 years after he was first indicted by the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal for genocide.

The former president of the Republic of Srpska is accused of authorizing the shooting of civilians during the 43-month siege of Sarajevo and orchestrating the slaughter of some 8,000 Muslim men in the Eastern Bosnian town of Srebernica during the Bosnia war.
