Macedonia Elections Won By Current PM Gruevski IMORO-DPMU Party

With almost 98% of the election protocols already processed it had become evident that the Internal Macedonian Odrin Revolutionary Organization - Democratic Party for Macedonian Unity (IMORO-DPMU) of the current Premier Nikola Gruevski has won the pro-term elections in Macedonia.

IMORO-DPMU received 64 Parliament seats.

When announcing his victory Gruevski stated that over 440 thousand people had voted for his party with the likelihood that this number would prove even higher.

Gruevski pointed out that this has been a huge show of support meaning also great responsibility for him and the Party to continue changes in the country. He offered special congratulations to the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDUM) for winning 28 seats. SDUM has also been a member of the ruling coalition in Macedonia before the elections.

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) of Ali Ahmeti will have 15 Parliament members while the Democratic Party of Albanians of Menduh Taci has won 12 seats.

Ahmeti declared that his party does not recognize the results from many voting sections and had requested a new vote.

The Central Election Commission in Macedonia has announced that the total number of those who voted yesterday was 805 844, which makes about 58% of all voters.

The elections in Macedonia Sunday were marked by unrest and violence. The most serious incident happened within hours of polls opening in the former ethnic Albanian rebel stronghold of Aracinovo, a village near Skopje, where two separate shootings left one person dead and three wounded.
