A total of 1623 precious antiques have been seized at a police raid in the home of a treasure hunter in Bulgaria's town of Pleven on Friday.

A great amount of ancient copper, bronze and silver coins, a child bracelet, a part of ceramic utensil and other antiques were found in a secret box in the house of the 48-year-old man.

The coins seized date from the Roman and the Byzantine periods as most of them were from the 3rd century.

An expert from the regional Museum of History said the coins are extremely precious because of their engravings and the way they are inscribed.

All of the antiques are original, authorities reported.

Legal proceedings have already been instituted on the case.
