Turkey Threatens to Close Bosphorus for Russian Ships
Turkey will close the Bosphorus for Russian ships, if there is violence against the Crimean Tatars, said Turkish prime minister Recep Erdogan.
In a phone conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin, quoted by a diplomatic source, Erdogan also said that Turkey will not recognize the referendum in Crimea in which 97% of the voters cast their ballots in favour of joining the Russian Federation.
“Turkey wants Ukraine to keep its territorial integrity,” Erdogan said. “If NATO takes a decision on the matter, we will certainly stick with it.”
Earlier Erdogan had a phone conversation with the leader of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev in which they discussed the threats against the Tatars in connection to the factual annexation of Crimea.

Turkey is a broken house with endless in-fights between the pro-west secular and east-bound Islamists to which Erdogan belongs. Since the fall of Ottoman Empire, Turkey's maximum capacity is to be West's cannon fodder, vindicated by NATO's eager recruitment yet EU's contemptuous rejection. Overflown on temper yet deficient in power, Erdogan's threats sound more like a sign of fear than courage. The Crimean Tartars are hostages of historical grievance and present impotence, a liability for Turkey who has enough on its plate at home, let alone intervening abroad.
There has been no violence against Tatars so far and very little violence so far.
The main threat of violence comes from the Ukraine and Turkey.
The Crimea and Russia are operating in a peaceful democratic way and should be allowed to continue like this.
The issue in Crimea is different to Russia, the coup in Kiev and discrimination against Russian speakers made it necessary for the people of the Crimea to seek a safe peaceful solution.
It is not in any way similar to the position of Chinese people who live in Russia.
Just take a look at a map. Bosphorus is a 30 km long narrow strait followed by the Dardanelles. Turkey won't need even ships to defend the straits. 300 km of shores Russia has to control before any ship could pass. A few howitzer would do it. Turkey has 14 submarines. Is there more than one operational Russian submarine?
In case Russia would try China would also try. In many parts of Siberia live more Chinese than Russian. Crimea example is the legal base for any Chinese action.
Russia will have them wiped out in hours not days, The turks must be suicidal to even be considering that.
The Russians will widen the Bosphorus and it will no longer belong to The Turks> Keep in mind that Turkey is
not what it once was and neither is Russia.
A good read,
Ihor Tenyukh – interim defense minister and a member of Svoboda’s political council. Formerly commander of Ukraine’s navy, in 2008, during Russia’s war with Georgia, he ordered Ukrainian warships to block the entrance of the Russian Navy to the bay of Sevastopol.
Andriy Parubiy – National Security Council chief, co-founded Svoboda back when it was the “Social National” (ahem!) party.
Dmytro Yarosh – deputy head of the National Security Council, i.e. the police, and the founder-leader of "Right Sector," a militant neo-Nazi paramilitary group that took charge of security in the Maiden.
Oleh Makhnitsky – Svoboda member of parliament, is prosecutor-general.
Oleksandr Sych – Svoboda parliamentarian and the party’s chief ideologist, is deputy prime minister for economic affairs.
Serhiy Kvit – a leading member of Svoboda, is to head up the Education Ministry.
Andriy Moknyk – the new Minister of Ecology, has been Svoboda’s envoy to other European fascist parties. Last year, he met with representatives of Italy’s violent neo-fascist gang, Forza Nuovo.
Ihor Shvaika – agro-oligarch and a member of Svoboda, has been appointed Minister of Agriculture. One of the richest men in the country, his massive investments in agriculture would seem to indicate a slight conflict of interest.
Maybe Erdogan doesn't know but the bosporus does NOT matter, Russia has now a permanent Mediterranean fleet and Russia does in fact have more than one coast and sea they can sail out from...now go back to banning youtube, beat up protesters or whatever you were doing..
if you care to dig down in history, you will find that there were actually Bulgarians who also lived in Crimea, but they do not claim it as there native land.
Read this short excerpt from Wikipedia
Since ca. 700 BC, the peninsula has changed hands well over a dozen times, with all or part having been controlled by Cimmerians, Bulgars, Greeks, Scythians, Romans, Goths, Huns, Khazars, Kievan Rus' (the historical precursor to the modern states of Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia), the Byzantine Empire, Venice, Genoa, Kipchaks, the Golden Horde, the Ottoman Empire, the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, Germany, Ukraine (illegally transfered to it by Khrushchev in 1954 - my comment).
So, as you can see, Crimea's turbulent existence had seen many rulers come and go. By defeating Ottoman Empire , Russia acquired Crimea and for over 200 years the peninsula belonged to Russia. Now it is back to those whom it rightfully belongs.
Oh, I am so sorry that people of Crimea didn't like Ukraine.
Nevertheless, the truth. you have to live up to your name. - See more at: http://www.novinite.com/showthread/233950/Vitali+Klitschko%3A+Risk+of+Ethnic+Cleansing+in+Crimea#sthash.nSzXad8S.dpuf
