The Greek police have carried out a controlled explosion of a bomb contained in a parcel for the French Embassy in Athens.

The new bomb package was found on Thursday after earlier this week a string of bomb threats with parcels sent by Greek leftist extremists to several embassies in Athens, including Bulgaria's, and the offices of EU leaders such as Merkel and Sarkozy, BGNES reported citing international media.

The Greek police have detected several more bomb packages in Markopoulo, a suburb of Athens.

The exact number and the recipients of the newly-found bomb parcels are unclear.

Greece has arrested two suspects aged 22 and 24 for mailing the parcels with explosive devices; five others are being wanted.
