Alleged mafia boss Stefan Bonev aka Sako has been released without charge after being arrested Tuesday in relation to the murder of controversial journalist Bobi Tsankov.

Sako was arrested on Tuesday evening in connection with the shooting of Tsankov in the center of Sofia earlier in the day.

In November 2009, Bulgarian Police arrested Sako in Sofia after he chased former radio host Tsankov through the streets of the capital in his car. He is also reported to have made previous threats against Tsankov’s life. Sako was released after paying BGN 6000 bail.

At the same time as Sako was released Bulgaria’s Prosecutor’s Office has charged alleged mafia boss Krasimir Marinov, aka “The Big Margiun” with ordering the murder of Tsankov.
