Renowned Bulgarian competitor Maria Grozdeva won Saturday her eight European title, after ranking first in the 10 m air pistol discipline at the Air Weapons European Championship in Prague, the Bulgarian news agency BGNES reports.
Grozdeva entered the finals with 388 points and finished with a total of 487,4 to win the gold medal and become European champion. The silver went to Nino Sakulvadze from Georgia, while Lenka Maruskova from the Czech Republic won the bronze.
Maria Grozdeva was born on June 23, 1972 in Sofia. She began competing at age of 11 and later graduated from the National Sports Academy in Sofia.
Maria Grozdeva has won the Olympic title in 25 m air pistol twice - at the 2000 Olympics in Sidney, Australia and in Athens in 2004. She is also three times Olympic bronze medal winner - Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996, and Athens in 2004. Grozdeva holds seven European titles and one Olympic and one World records.
In 2004, Maria was selected top female athlete in the Balkans and in Bulgaria.
