The European Union will allocate EUR 105 M to fighting youth unemployment in Bulgaria, according to caretaker Labor and Social Policy Minister Yordan Hristoskov.

Speaking Friday in Plovdiv, Hristoskov announced that the program would be launched in October and it would include 8000 young people.

He made clear that employment offices across the country were accepting applications from employers and unemployed young people aged up to 22.

Hristoskov, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, informed that the EU program Youth Guarantee included two segments, one for them targeting young people who had completed a certain level of education and had a professional orientation, while the other one was focused on young people who did not fulfill the educational and professional requirements.

Bulgaria’s caretaker Labor Minister noted that Bulgaria would provide BGN 5 M in national funding for the launch of the program, adding that the sum had been planned under the budget update.

He also said that the number of young people included in the program would increase in 2015.

According to recent data of Eurostat, youth unemployment in Bulgaria in July amounted to 21.2%, meaning that a total of 37 000 people aged up to 25 were out of work.
